From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, demons, and sinister influences expanding in power within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of characters who will separate from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.
This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.
Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are rare.
At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem unsuited, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team knows exactly where to go next after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his own means, invading the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.
The antagonist then paid off his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, north of the city, with Cyd pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each character has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, wants vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and advises that it is a hostile place.
- The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- But, their position as key figures in the influential clan could assist the group reach locations they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, The grateful character swore a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The healer turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This leaves them few options but to head to the northern region in search of Casimir.
