Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at each of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the points lead from Piastri by just one point after winning in Mexico City recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before the sprint shootout set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, sitting 36 points behind behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his team opted for a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, albeit lightly, when he rotated at the fourth corner early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before sliding over the run-off area, and was lucky to get away with just a light touch of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the conclusion of the practice, spinning around through the quick descending corner leading to the last turn on to the pit straight.
The veteran ended the session in 19th, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, 0.619 seconds behind Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
