Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
The preview shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
